VIDEO: Tigers share what Mizzou means to them.

or 175 years, Mizzou has meant many things to many people. Take a moment to watch the short “Mizzou Is” video, which captures what the university has meant to students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends over the years. Let us know what Mizzou means to you at #Mizzou175.

Nicholas Basi is the four-year-old son of MU alumni Christian, BJ ’95, MA ’05, and Kate Basi, BM ’97. Nicholas plans on attending Mizzou in the future. Right now, his favorite mascot is Truman the Tiger.

Adriana Boersner, a Fullbright Student from Venezuela, is pursuing a doctorate in political science at MU. Her research interests are in Venezuelan foreign policy, the Middle East, democratization and liberalization, democracy, regime changes and international relations theory. Before arriving at Mizzou, Boersner taught at Universidad Central de Venezuela.

Eleanor Coatar, a senior in the School of Journalism, is from Overland Park, Kan. She is a student newscast producer at KOMU-8 News, a teaching assistant at Missouri Digital News, an ambassador on the MU Tour Team, a steering committee member for Rockin’ Against Multiple Sclerosis (a campus philanthropy) and a member of the sorority Chi Omega.

Javier Fernandez, a junior in the School of Journalism, is from Miami, Fla. He is a Summer Welcome leader and student coordinator, a Community 360 counselor, an ambassador on the MU Tour Team and a member of the Delta Chi fraternity. Fernandez also participates in Alternative Winter Break, a program that sends student volunteers to people and places in need.

Kee Groshong, BS, BA ’64, spent his career at MU, retiring in 2002 as vice chancellor of administrative services. He also served as chair of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Groshong currently serves on the MU 175th Anniversary Celebration Leadership Committee and is a member of the MU Retirees Association.

Kandice Head, a sophomore in the School of Journalism, is from Chicago, Ill. She is a member of the Mizzou Alumni Association Student Board, the National Association of Black Journalists and the MSA Multicultural Issues Committee. Kandice is an ambassador for the Missouri Student Unions, a member of the MU Tour Team and a 2014 Summer Welcome leader.

Wen Ouyang is originally from Shanghai, China, and currently works as a specialist in the  Office of the Vice Provost for International Programs and as co-director of the MU Confucius Institute. She has a rich background in cross-cultural teaching, which enables her to design curricula and teaching methods for people from different backgrounds. Ouyang received her doctorate in educational leadership and policy analysis from MU in 2006.

Clyde Ruffin, professor of acting and vocal performance and chair of the Department of Theatre, is known for excellence in teaching. His teaching awards include the Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence, the MU Faculty Alumni Award and the Chancellor’s Award for Research and Creativity. Clyde received the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Medallion for his work as regional playwriting chair and national respondent.

Mason Schara is a junior majoring in marketing from Wylie, Texas. He serves as president of the Missouri Students Association, an organization that represents the interests of MU’s student body. He also is a member of the 175th Anniversary Celebration Leadership Committee.

Deb Snellen, BS ’79, MA’80, founded a consulting firm and traveled nationwide for 25 years providing workshops, seminars and facilitation services for organizational development and improvement. Currently, she is director of organizational and professional development for the Office of Advancement at MU. Deb served as president of the Mizzou Alumni Association from 2003-04. She is a recipient of the Faculty Alumni Award and the Tiger Pride Award.

Gregory Triplett has a particular enthusiasm for building mentoring relationships with MU students and is known for his forthright approach to helping them achieve their potential. An associate professor of engineering and an associate director of the MU Honors College, Triplett was instrumental in establishing a scholarship program for MU engineering students to increase retention. He received the Kemper Fellowship Award for teaching excellence in 2010. Triplett currently serves on the MU 175th Anniversary Celebration Leadership Committee.

Yong Volz, an associate professor in the School of Journalism, specializes in the concept of transculturation and the history and development of journalism in the U.S. and China. Born in Beijing and raised in Shanghai, China, Volz is a 2013-14 Reynolds Journalism Institute fellow.
