Maria Magner is a graduate student in the Trulaske College of Business. A native of Waukon, Iowa, Magner had been living on the west coast and yearned to get back to the Midwest. Before coming to Mizzou, Magner worked with smart, hardworking Mizzou alumni who adored their alma mater, many of whom would schedule vacations around Homecoming. It seemed like the perfect fit for her to pursue her master’s of business administration.

“Mizzou’s journalism program is one of the best in the country; the fact the MBA program allowed collaboration between the two schools was an incentive that other universities didn’t offer,” Magner said. “There also were opportunities here for my husband who recently graduated from medical school, so Mizzou was a great choice.”

While at Mizzou, Magner has appreciated the ample opportunities to shine. She has written for the MBA blog, made connections with professors, and even led a group of students on a trip through Nicaragua as part of an international consulting course.

Her advice to new students at Mizzou? “Get out of your comfort zone and try new things. Mizzou is a place designed for creative thinking, unique perspectives and new challenges. Everyone here wants you to succeed, so don’t be afraid.”
