A native from Columbia, MO, Samuel Richards is pursuing an MBA with an emphasis in business analytics at the Trulaske College of Business. Richards also attended Mizzou as an undergraduate, earning degrees in math and chemistry.

Richards says Mizzou stood out from the pack of potential MBA schools because they offered him a substantial financial package and the opportunity to earn a stipend as a graduate teaching assistant. Another compelling reason? Richards says he has many family members in the Columbia area that are there to support him during his time at Mizzou.

Thanks to the skills and abilities he gained at Mizzou as an undergrad, Richards was able to start up his own tutoring business. Richards says this wouldn’t have been possible without the problem solving and analytical skills he’s learned from his professors.

“I am very impressed with the caliber of teachers at the Trulaske College of Business,” Richards said. “I constantly encounter challenging problems and projects that force me to apply concepts learned in class to find viable solutions.”

His advice to incoming students who want to find their place at Mizzou? Get involved in all aspects of Mizzou life and use all the resources that the university offers.

“Work hard in school, take part in collegiate sport activities, and get involved in student organizations. Remember, academics come first but be sure to have fun while you learn.”
