Roar, tiger, roar

Nothing — not even a global pandemic — could stop Mizzou from celebrating its spring 2020 graduates. This semester, Tigers took to the internet for a 24-hour social media blitz to honor the more than 6,000 students who received their degrees the weekend of May 15.

While the event was not intended to replace a commencement ceremony, it helped mark the traditional spring graduation weekend and allowed families and friends an opportunity to publicly recognize the accomplishments of their Mizzou graduates.

Throughout the weekend, campus leaders, students and faculty shared messages of support on Mizzou’s social media channels. Well-known alumni, including John Anderson, Jon Hamm and Sheryl Crow, also got in on the action. In addition to campus-wide celebrations, each college and school had special festivities planned.

Even though graduating Tigers were spread across the world, their chants of “M-I-Z,” and the responding “Z-O-U,” had never been more united.

“Thank you to our Mizzou leadership for allowing graduates, their friends and families, to celebrate their accomplishments,” one mother commented on Facebook. “This is an unprecedented time and your time and dedication to making this weekend one that can be recognized in light of so many obstacles is much appreciated. We will look forward to the day where we can celebrate in person at Mizzou.”
